Honestly, This was one of the best hotels i have been to, I came from America Chicago And i was looking for a hotel and my freind recommended me with this hotel so i gave it a try and when i tell you the quality everything about this hotel is perfect, i booked the double bed room and it was perfect the toilet, pillows , blanket was perfect and there’s more the food was immaculate and the garden, i really recommend this hotel for others.

We had dinner as a couple. This was the best dining experience I have had for a very long time. A lovely quiet, intimate atmosphere, only 20 covers and one sitting, so you could really relax. I had Marsh Pig Capocollo followed by the Pork Belly with crackling. My partner had Monkfish Wellington. We duelled with two spoons over the Stem Ginger creme brulee to finish.
So much thought had gone into the levels of flavours, variety of textures and wonderful presentation in each dish. I don't write that profusely in reviews but this was sensational. I've eaten at most other restaurants in Southwold but Sutherland House is a gem operating at a much higher level.

Our first time at Sutherland House and it was such an enjoyable evening, we really enjoyed ourselves the staff were great, the atmosphere was perfect and the food was 10/10. We will definitely be back!

We chose Sutherland House for an anniversary meal. The whole experience was excellent, friendly service which managed to be both relaxed and prompt, and truly lovely food. We eat out quite a lot and this was one of the best meals we've had in ages. My wife was very impressed that all of the main courses and most of the starters were dairy free, and there was a good range of vegan and gluten free dishes. Definitely a highlight of our visit to Southwold.

A lovely place and steeped in history, in the town close to all that Southwold has to offer. Lovely room, nice and clean and comfortable with everything you need. Just a word of warning if you are tall and in the top rooms, duck as in the 16th century people were obviously not as tall as today ! But still a lovely place and a very enjoyable stay

Wonderful Friday night dinner! The best meal I’ve had in 2024. Friendly and relaxed service in a welcoming family run and local-spirited restaurant. All the dishes we ordered were exceptional (goats cheese and fig tart starter, sole main, rhubarb pudding and a taste of the special bread and butter pudding with ice cream). Located in a really interesting historic building in an accessible spot in Southwold. I’d recommend Sutherland House to all. Thank you for the great evening!

We had a long weekend in Southwold 12-15 April and I had booked the Sutherland House restaurant several week's in advance having read reviews and their story .
Have to say the whole experience was superb from arrival to departure, with excellent food, service and the banter with Andy who was a brilliant host. Thank you for a wonderful evening and would thoroughly recommend

Four of us went for a Saturday evening meal, in this beautiful old building ( oldest in Southwold) it's well maintained, comfortable and warm, as it was a very windy rainy day in march. Predominantly a fish restaurant there is still choice for the carnivores and vegan's on the menu. Two of us had the sole which was very tasty, & well prepared & presented,vegetables ordered separately and shared with the table. Our husbands both had the local pork which they felt could have been a bigger portion, but agreed it was well cooked and nicely presented. All dishes not as hot( temperature, we like out food boiling!!!) as we would have liked but it was a very chilly evening so maybe that effected service? Desserts were tasty, beautiful presentation & utterly indulgent, just as puds should be! The host & owner, Andy was very helpful friendly and chatty and made you feel welcome . The chief ,Kinga , owners wife came out after cooking to talk to each table which was a nice touch. A lovely evening in a lovely comfortable setting well worth a visit you are in the area, or if you live near!!

We dined Sutherland House recently because they advertise as a plant based restaurant. They have several very well prepared dishes and quite unique! The food was delicious, service friendly and welcoming and a pleasurable evening all around. I would highly recommend, especially for you vegans or vegetarians out there!

Well now what can I say about Sutherland House..... Quirky comes to mind. Slightly worried as I always am with parking at Southwold I was slightly anxious along with the "self" check in at the Hotel.
Amazingly after some shuffling around I was able to park around the corner by The Soul Inn and the check in went without concern.
Our room, The John Sutherland Suite was clean, well laid out with separate living room, bedroom and newly revamped shower/wet room.
The restaurant is award winning and my wife and I were thoroughly entertained by Andy and more importantly Kinga' food :)
Highly recommended for a quality, individual experience.
